Q: Walk us through the process behind the release of your new product, FUNDED. Why did you decide to create a gloss? And what were some of the choices behind the formulation?
I wanted to start with a gloss and a color that works for everybody and expand outward, just making it easy and palatable for everyone.
As far as the formulation, I was really interested in a gloss that's not sticky or tacky and something that's universally flattering to different skin tones. I know that a lot of women of color have different color lips. We also [can] have hyperpigmentation in our mouth. So I had to figure out what color is going to work with all of our skin tones? What color is commonly flattering for all? I chose a plum color because it works for everyone and really complements the cool tones, yellow undertone and more reddish undertones-- especially because it's sheer.
Q: Luxury is a key brand value at Gold Label. How do you define luxury and why do you think it is important? 💁🏾♀️
I can define my luxury, but defining luxury overall is a bit difficult because everybody's authentic luxury isn't the same.
If you go to Pinterest and you type in luxurious aesthetic, you're going to get a whole myriad of beauty, homes, yachts and things like that. And that's not always everybody's luxury.
So for me, my idea of luxury is something that's easy to wear, easy to do, and beautiful at the same time. Of course, I like opulence where I can get it, but it needs to make sense for when I'm going out with my friends or with my man or, you know, if I'm out with my baby - I want to look good at all times.
I also want to make sure that I'm not overcomplicating my day with unnecessary. I don't think that beauty should be complicated. I don't think that it should be hard to access. That's why my luxury is affordable and it's no-nonsense. As fun as it is, it still works with ease. So that's my definition of luxury.
Q: As usual, your products are full of affirming language, what was on your mind when you chose the word FUNDED?
I chose the word FUNDED because I was excited about some of the things in the future for my business and whether I have the immediate funds or not, I need to be able to speak it into existence.
I want things for myself that are going to require just an affirmation, just some expectations. So that's why I like to use affirmations in my products as well, because it's a little bit of a reminder to myself and to others. You might not know exactly how it's going to get done, but if you just speak it into existence, it is almost inevitable at this point. Like I know that I'll be able to do what I need to do.
So every time you swipe that lip gloss: think about what you're going to get FUNDED, and think about it accomplished.
Don't worry about all of the intricate details and just kind of keep moving forward.
Q: Who is the Gold Label Cosmetics customer? Walk us through a day in the life of the customer you’re creating for.
I was listening to someone speak on finding your dot, which is who you speak to, who do you speak for, what type of products or information you're creating for, who is your audience and get specific as possible.
So I want to focus on women who just kind of keep it easy with their looks. They enjoy something that's easy to throw on and if they want to amp it up, they can.
This woman can throw it on whenever she’s running around handling errands.
It’s perfect because you don't have a bunch of different colors, it’s just something to add when you just need to fine tune your makeup. This is one of those things that like makes the edit.
That's what I was thinking when I created the gloss, especially with the color that I chose. Just, you know, what type of woman is interested in something like Gold Label cosmetics - their hustling, running around getting a bunch of things accomplished and so they need something that is fuss-free, travels well and looks good all the time.
Q: If you had to tell someone like why they should buy this product, what would you say to them?
It’s a number of things, I know that we're all tired of wearing the gloss that makes that ashy white ring around your mouth, we're over it. I know that I'm tired of wearing lip glosses that I have to work and tweak to make look good. And I'm tired of wearing overly sticky. So if you're tired of it like I'm tired of it, then you should probably check out FUNDED.
It's non-sticky, it's vegan, it's cruelty free, paraben-free and you're also just enjoying a nice soft color on your lips that you can keep applying if you so choose. It leaves a nice tint on your lips and it retains moisture, too. So there's no ashy lips this way. Gold Label Cosmetics has you covered.
Q: Anything you'd like to add?
I'm excited to partner with GEENIE. I know you all always have a great community and you all speak my language all the time. So I'm excited. I'm looking forward to it. And I know there's going to be a lot of great people receiving my products. I can't wait for others to be as excited about FUNDED as I am.
