#TBT: Iconic Moments in Beauty History - Reshma Valliappan

#TBT: Iconic Moments in Beauty History 🌟 A GEENIE series giving flowers to the women and femmes whose beauty and talent sparkled and reigned supreme over time. This month, we're centering API folx from around the globe, in recognition of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Month. And today we recognize someone who's helped spread mental health awareness in many communities within India, human rights artist-activist Reshma Valliapan, aka "Val Resh" πŸ’«

The Moment: It's 2018 and we're at Shiv Nadar University - located in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh in India. @valresh is invited to speak at TEDxShivNadarUniversity. Her session is titled "Madness - the world has it all wrong", and we're diving into her experience on living with schizophrenia without medications. Reshma Valliapan speaks on the mainstage in a navy blue button up, paired with a shiny gold tie, black vest, pleated trousers, and combat boots. *SWIPE* to hear Reshma's clip from Tedx Talks (YouTube) πŸŽ₯

"I challenge the audience to think about the numerous stereotypes our society and civilized minds have formed - from gurus, to Mystics, to doctors, to psychologist, to parents, to the layman, to the lawyers, to the government, to every single person to define this madness that they’ve believed to be a disease of the lowest being in society. They’ve called people like me trash or waste products for a suffering no one has a cure for. Not even the best of doctors or greatest of saints. Because everyone’s asking the wrong question... An alien send to spread love through madness."

Reshma Valliapan has been featured on Tedx Talks twice in the last 5 years! She's also received the National Award for Best educational film for her documentary "A Drop of Sunshine" πŸ™ŒπŸΎ To learn more visit valresh.com
